NSW, VIC, TAS; Road trip with my cousin Sherri and Kombi, Dec 2009- NSW, VIC, TAS

My cousin Sherri arrived in Sydney in early December where we met to begin our first road trip together ever, with Kombi.

Beginning in Sydney we spent a great weekend with our other cousin Clare and her husband Jeff, checking out the views, watching a play at the Sydney opera house and of course, Bondi beach.

Come Monday we were off!  Heading south, we drove along the eastern coast from NSW and into Victoria, camping out in Kombi the whole way as we fished, went sight seeing, met locals and got into whatever we could!

Arriving in Melbourne, we spent the first day with a Canadian friend, Lisa.  I had met her earlier this year through CS and had traveled north with her almost a year ago already.  I really enjoyed Melbourne, the locals were laid back, there was plenty to see and do and the vibe of the city gave a welcoming feeling as we explored.  Melbourne to me was a larger city with a small town feel, if it wasn't so cold here while we visited in December, I might have considered moving here next.

From Melbourne, we caught the Tazmania Spirit to Tazmania where we drove, camped, dived and explored for just under a week.  From Devonport where the ferry dropped us off, to Bachino where I went for an awesome cold water dive and later saw penguins, to Hobart, the capital where we walked what is probably the only "city" in Tazmania.  Afterwards, taking the inner highway we drove up the center of Tazmania to George Town, where I managed to fit in a night dive before heading back the next day. Afterwards, Sherri and I had a few with the locals at a near by pub.

Tasmania was beautiful!  If I was willing to sacrifice the heat while in Australia, I would move there in a heart beat.  The locals were friendly, the diving was unique and the coast line had penguins!

Back on the mainland, we arrived in Melbourne and headed straight for the Great Ocean Road.  What a gorgeous drive!!  The coastal landscape along this route is incredible.  It seemed as though we were constantly stopping to take pictures and saw plenty of wildlife while venturing off up the rainforest walks into the Victorian rainforest.  We saw many Koalas, a few snakes and a picky round thing, whose name escapes me right now.

Reaching the end of the Great Ocean Road, we turned around.  Initially planning to take a different route back we headed for the inner highway but soon decided it was much more beautiful along the coast and ventured back to highway one at lakes entrance before stopping in Mallacoota.

While in Mallacoota we were lucky to meet two locals, Tom and Craig who brought us fishing and surfing as we explored the town for a few nights.

Sadly this brought us to the end of our 4 week adventure, driving north, we reached Sydney before we knew it and Sherri's time in Australia was up :(  Dropping her off in Sydney so she could catch her flight, I headed for Newy.  In only 3 short days I was off to visit Canada myself and had many things to take care of before making it back to the Sydney airport.
